When making a game it's important to consider if it will be and/or what will be fun about it. At the same time we have to think about you audience the players. Here we look at both the casual players and the "hardcore" type. And when making a game, we look at the "fun" and the players and wonder what comes first, the chicken or the egg?

We have to remember that everyone is different and that everyone is looking for something else than the other. People find fun in different things, like collecting, advancing, socializing, learning, and sometimes, occasionally, ruining the game for others. But when making a game we have to remember about those elements and remember that your audience may vary.

What creates fun can be dated all the way back to the good ol' stone age. What was useful then can be fun now. For example, fire, super useful then, it was a new invention. Today, you have pyromaniacs. The same can be said about hunting and reproduction. Basic instincts shifted into what we find "fun" today. Fun is an emotional response to something we enjoy doing and that also creates a slight problem....

Not everything that's enjoyable or good can be classified as fun, like a war film, it's not particularly fun but can be engaging an enjoyable. Fun is abstract, a game can be fun for some and just enjoyable for others, because everyone's different and depending on the kind of game your making, especially an RPG or a sandbox type game like GTA or Sims, the player can make their own fun if they want to.
